Charting a Course for Global Trade with Cipperly Good
January 10 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Cipperly Good, Maritime History Curator, Penobscot Marine Museum will give a presentation titled: Charting a Course for Global Trade.
In the Nineteenth Century American global trade a disproportionate amount of foreign goods traveled on Maine-built and/or Maine-captained sailing cargo vessels. Using annotated nautical charts owned by Mid-coast Maine captains, this illustrated talk will show the ports of call, trade routes, and commentary of those captains as they plied their trade. Along the way, we will hear stories of business dealings in foreign ports and the captains who acted as businessmen on top of their regular duties.
