From Keel to Loom in Scotland and its Northern Isles

World traveler and knitting expert Marci Richardson brings a fascinating presentation that weaves together textiles, traditions, and the enduring spirit of the sea. Discover how the sinking of the Spanish Armada connects to the creation of iconic maritime garments such as the Fair Isle sweater, the Gansey (or Guernsey). Learn about the fishing communities that keep these traditions alive and their use of sixerns—a larger version of the yoal, and similar to our own Cornish pilot gigs.

This program will take place in the Abbott Room with a Zoom option. Register for the Zoom link here.

The program, co-sponsored by the Belfast Free Library will be recorded and uploaded to the Library’s YouTube Channel.
