Staying Safe(r) in Our Digital World

March 16 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

One event on March 20, 2020 at 11:30 am

The great majority of Americans use some combination of computers, smart TVs, laptops, cell phones, baby monitors, Digital Assistants, and even electronic door openers. These are wonderful tools that offer new levels of convenience and make many new activities possible. However, it is still “the Wild West out there!” on the Web.

As individuals, we cannot eliminate all risk in the digital world, but there are simple things within our control that we can do to make ourselves safer as we enjoy the benefits of today’s digital technology while minimizing the downsides. This session, presented by Jim Campbell, will explore a number of those strategies from creating safer passwords, to changing manufacturers’ settings on our devices, to finding where a link will actually take us before we click on it, to making our web searches invisible to those who are trying to follow us online.

NOTE: The same program will be presented on Monday, March 16 at 6:30pm and Friday, March 20 at 11:30am in the Conference Room on the 3rd Floor of the library. Attendees can choose the day/time that works best for them.

This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome!
