This summer, get up close and personal with one of our nation’s most sacred documents. A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence is coming to the Belfast Free Library on August 13-15, 2026!

Maine Historical Society is the steward of one of 26 surviving copies of the Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration printed in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, and sent to the Colonies to announce American independence. From July to October 2026, the Declaration will travel across Maine to all 16 counties with great pomp and circumstance. It will be in Belfast for Waldo County’s tour stop on August 13-15!
