Waldo Reads Together is Back!
The Belfast Free Library has partnered with Literacy Volunteers of Waldo County, Belfast Senior College, and the Waldo Reads Together steering committee to bring back this community wide book read program.
The 2026 selected title, Call Me American, is a memoir describing the heroic survival of Abdi Nor Iftin in war-ravaged Somalia and his incredible journey to becoming an American in Maine.
Books will be available to borrow from the BFL, or can be ordered or purchased for a discount at Anodyne Book Shop in Searsport or Left Bank Books in Belfast.
We have scheduled three book discussion times, all free and open to the public:
Monday, April 6th 3:00-4:30 in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library. Register for the discussion here.
Tuesday April 7th, 6:30-8:00 in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library. Register for the discussion here.
Thursday April 9th, 10:00-11:30 at Belfast Senior College at The Belfast Center. Register for the discussion here.
We are thrilled that Abdi Nor Iftin will join us on Friday April 10, 4-6pm in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library to speak about his book and experiences. The title of his talk is, “From Refugee to Neighbor: Rethinking What it Means to be American.”
