Belfast Free Library will welcome author Kenneth Davis on Tuesday, December 13th, joining us for a presentation and discussion about his latest book, In the Shadow of Liberty: The Hidden History of Slavery, Four Presidents, and Five Black Lives. The book has received excellent reviews from publications including Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and New York Times Book Review, where it was included in an article about three new books that tell stories of slavery with sensitivity and historical accuracy. In the Shadow of Liberty has also just been selected as one of the best children’s and young adult books for 2016 by the Washington Post.

Davis will speak about the book and then lead a discussion about about American slavery and the founding of the nation. This program is scheduled for young adults, with a group of students from Troy Howard Middle School attending. It is also open to the public and all are welcome.
