At the Belfast Free Library the entire second floor is a space for children and teens. This welcoming place is filled with a broad collection of books, audiobooks, creative play materials, and digital resources. Our friendly staff is here to help kids, parents, caregivers, and educators find the materials they need and the stories they’ll love!
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Enroll you child to receive a free book each month!!
~Waldo County parents and caregivers: You can inspire your child's love of reading with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
How it works:
~The imagination Library program is now available for all infants, toddlers and preschoolers in Waldo County!!
~It is free and easy to register you child just click here.
~In 6-8 weeks, your child will receive their first book in the mail, "The Little Engine That Could."
~Books will continue to arrive in the mail monthly until your child's 5th birthday.

~Youth Community Science Explorers Group (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)~
STEAM Team Youth Community Science Explorers Group is a monthly program focused on the exploration of climate change and what you can do in your community to support the environment. Youth ages 8-12 are invited to join this partnership between the University of Maine's 4-H program in Waldo County and the Belfast Free Library. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, meet scientists and staff from the University of Maine, Maine Audubon, and the Shaw Institute, and create connections with peers.
Time: 3:3opm - 5:00pm

Visit the Storywalk—Sea Dog
~At Belfast City Park , 88 Northport Road, Belfast Maine. Start the book at the bridge near the playground and then walk toward the ocean for the next page. Read the story while walking the loop trail.

LEGO Club
~Love LEGOs? Come join the club. The library provides LEGOs and a scoop. Take your scoop of LEGOs to a table and build. Build what you like or take the Library Challenge.
Near the conclusion of the program, you can describe your build or leave it to our imagination. All are Welcome!

Library Skills for Homeschool Families
~Children's Librarian Stephanie Holman will lead a program to support readers and researchers with tips and tools to use a public library to its fullest. A tour of the library will follow. To conclude, we will review our new library skills with games and prizes. Grades K and up.

Storytelling Workshops for Youth
Led by Librarian and Storyteller Stephanie Holman
Storytelling: Learn to tell a story without use of notes. These mini-workshops will celebrate this spoken word art form. No pressure to perform in front of an audience, but participants will have the option in the Spring.
*Sample stories for use will be available.
*Program will involve solo and group work.
