Author Talk with Judith Burger- Gossart

As part of the Maine Writers Talk About… series of author talks, nationally recognized magazine writer, Judith Burger-Gossart will be speak about her recently released book, Sadie’s Winter Dream, Fishermen’s Wives and Maine Sea Coast Mission Hooked Rugs, 1923-1938. She will display several Mission rugs and illustrate her talk with archival photographs of Maine communities, rug hookers, and Mission hooked rugs. The book tells the story of how Alice M. Peasley changed women’s lives all along Maine’s coast. Under the auspices of the Mission, she taught women how to hook rugs, she sold their rugs, and put much needed money into their pockets. In addition, she taught the women to be creative, imaginative, and playful. Burger-Gossart’s talk will highlight the tenacious women and men who eked out a living on Maine’s islands and coast in the early 1900s.

Burger- Gossart is a finalist for the 2016 Maine Literary Award in the category of Maine Non-fiction. Books will be available to purchase at the program.
