Dawnland Voices Book Discussion

Beginning Monday September 19th at 6pm, the Belfast Free Library will host a Book Discussion Series focused on the book, Dawnland Voices: An Anthology of Indigenous Writing from New England (Siobhan Senier, editor). The series is free and open to the public and will be co-facilitated by Cloe Chunn and Diane Oltarzewski.
Participants will focus on the portions of the book that include Native writers from Maine tribal communities, in preparation for three Monday evening discussions from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Abbott Room.The September 19 meeting will cover the Introduction (pp. 1-14) and MicMac selections (pp. 21-106); October 17 will cover the Maliseet (pp. 113-154) and Abenaki (pp. 275-366); and November 14 will cover the Passamaquoddy (pp. 161-211) and the Penobscot (pp. 215-268). Guest facilitators for the final session on November 14th will be Sherri Mitchell (Penobscot lawyer and Executive Director of the Land Peace Foundation) and Margo Lukens (a professor of English at the University of Maine).
