Exploring the End of Sustainability and the Rise of Restoration with Susie O’Keeffe

October 1, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Susie O’Keeffe will lead a discussion concerning the root causes of humanity’s ecological impact. Since the 1970’s 60% of the wildlife on the planet has been lost due to human activities. The planet’s vital life systems, including the climate, the oceans and forests are collapsing. For most, this is devastating news, and yet envisioning a way to end this carnage seems impossible.
As a Research Associate at the College of the Atlantic, Susie O’Keeffe is focused on understanding the underlying reasons for this catastrophe, and exploring the cultural changes required to move us from a system of destruction and domination, to one of restoration and reciprocity. The talk will explore what O’Keeffe has outlined as the four central elements of reciprocity, and how these can replace the idea of sustaining our current system with a new paradigm based on the restoration of the natural world.
