Foraging for Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms

September 12, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Maine mycologist and author Greg Marley will present an introduction to the best edible and medicinal mushrooms in the fall woods of Maine.

Wild mushrooms along the coast of Maine reach their peak abundance and diversity in late summer and autumn. A walk in the woods and fields will reveal a bewildering and beautiful array of colorful mushrooms in many shapes and sizes. For someone wanting to learn if any are edible and which are poisonous, it can be intimidating. Join Maine mushroom expert and author Greg Marley on a tour of some of the common edible and medicinal mushrooms and their toxic look-alikes. Attendees are welcome to bring in a few fresh mushrooms to identify and add to the collection.

Greg Marley recently celebrated 45 years of collecting, eating and studying wild mushrooms. He has been sharing his knowledge across Maine and New England for more than 25 years through talks, workshops and seminars. He is an active consultant regarding mushroom poisoning across New England. Marley is the author of Mushrooms for Health and Chanterelle Dreams, Amanita Nightmares; the Love, Lore and Mystique of Mushrooms.
