Gardens of Use and Delight with Speaker: Anne Perkins
Anne Perkins will describe her large market garden in Owls Head, Maine. She will talk about topics of interest to gardeners with emphasis on the intermediate and advanced vegetable gardeners, such as planning for the growing season, recordkeeping, succession planting, crop rotation schemes, cover cropping, design of garden and plant combinations. Gardeners will have the opportunity to ask questions!
Anne Perkins is obsessed with vegetables. On Headacre Farm, an old salt water farm in Owls Head, and at her home in Thomaston, she indulges herself in her passion by growing a huge variety of vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers on over 10,000 square feet of cultivated ground. She’s been selling the fruits of her labors since 2010 to a couple of local restaurants, including Cafe Miranda in Rockland, at the Oceanview Grange Farmers Market in Martinsville, her Farm Share customers and to private customers and friends. Anne has been gardening since the age of four and has left a trail of gardens behind her, in places as varied as Florida and Alaska, as she followed her husband in his career. Settled back in Maine since 2001, she is now able to devote herself to full-time gardening and is enjoying every minute of it. She wants to spread the word that growing vegetables can be great fun and that a vegetable garden of any size can be even more beautiful than the best flower garden.
