Opening Reception for THE PLACE WE BECOME

Please join artists Diane Green-Hebert and Victoria Pittman and poet Carolyn Locke for a reception at 5:30 pm for their collaborative exhibit, “The Place We Become”. There will be a Multimedia Presentation at 6:30.

The seed for this project was planted soon after the three creative artists worked together on a five-minute multimedia presentation entitled “Speaking the Mystery” for the Belfast Poetry Festival in the fall of 2014. Pittman’s photography and Green-Hebert’s masks faded in and out of each other in a slide presentation keyed to Locke’s poems which were read live in front of the audience. Combining the art and poetry in this way gave the works new and surprising dimensions that were even more satisfying and exciting than the works in their original form.

The three women dreamed of a longer and more in-depth collaboration of the same type, and so when Locke’s new book came out in the spring of 2015, they made a commitment to realize that dream. After many months, their work has finally come to fruition in a show which they hope will delight and perhaps even inspire their audience. Copies of Carolyn Locke’s books will be available for purchase and signing.
