Peace and Social Justice Forum/Waldo County Film Presentation

October 19, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:45 pm

In recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day  2022 the Peace and Social Justice Forum/Waldo County in collaboration with Rural Action Group Against Racism (RAGAR) present the film Voices from the Barrens, Native People, Blueberries and Sovereignty.
Filmmaker Nancy Ghertner documents the wild blueberry harvest of the Wabanaki Indigenous People from the USA and Canada as the tribes are challenged to balance blueberry hand raking traditions with the economics of the world market. Following the film we will offer a link for people to attend an online  panel discussion with REACH Wabanaki Wellness Coordinator Brian Altvater, and filmmaker Nancy Ghertner the following evening, October 20, at 6:30 pm. This documentary  was filmed from 2014-2019, released in 2020, and has been part of nine film festivals throughout New England.
Join us, as we gather safely for this community viewing of an important Maine film.
