POSTPONED Peace and Justice of Waldo County Film Presentation “13th”

January 17, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER

The Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County will screen the powerful documentary “13th” (2016, USA).

In “13th,” filmmaker Ava Duvernay explores the intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States. The film is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which feed the slaves and prohibited slavery. The Unites State has five percent of the world’s population but 25 percent of the world’s prisoners.

The documentary shows that slavery has been perpetuated in criminal justice practices since the end of the American Civil War; and examines the prison-industrial complex and the emerging detention-industrial complex, demonstrating how much money is being made by corporations from such incarcerations.

Admission is free and all are welcome. For more information, call Meredith Bruskin at 338-5089.
