Greater Waldo Community Network Forum to Present the Film “Resilience” in Belfast
Since 2008 the Waldo County Building Communities for Children (BCC) coalition has been presenting an annual Greater Waldo Community Network Forum to provide an opportunity to look at some of the pressing needs in the community and identify strategies that may help to alleviate those needs.
This year’s forum will take place on Thursday, May 18th from 9:15am to 12:00pm at the Belfast Free Library at 106 High Street in Belfast. The program, which includes a free viewing of the film “Resilience” with facilitated discussion following, starts at 9:30.
“Resilience” is a highly-acclaimed film that explores the effects of toxic stress on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, incarceration, and early death. The film also chronicles the dawn of a movement that is determined to respond to this challenge, including pioneers in pediatrics, education and social welfare who are applying cutting-edge science and therapies to help children counter the effects of toxic stress.
Discussion around the topic of resilience will be facilitated by Patrick Walsh, Maine Children’s Trust’s Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Professional of 2014, and by educator and author Caer Hallundbaek, who works on policy and leadership issues with Waldo County General Hospital, area school districts and the University of Maine.
There is no charge to attend, but donations are welcome to cover costs. The forum will include refreshments and snacks.
Seating is limited, and pre-registration is recommended.
Building Communities for Children is a partnership of social service agencies, businesses, parents and interested community members that meets in Belfast on the first Thursday of each month.
