The Herbalist’s Guide to Food Sensitivities with Steve Byers

November 15, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

“I get bloated after almost every meal” has become a common phrase today. In this program we will talk about how food sensitivities may be triggering digestive distress and understand the core elements to healthy digestive function. The gut sets the foundation for our immune, mood, hormonal health and so much more. For example, over 80% of our serotonin and 50% of our dopamine is made in the gut. We will discuss key elements to identifying patterns of imbalance in the gut, how to address food sensitivities, and which food and herbs may best benefit our digestive health. Medicinal plants offer a broad spectrum of mechanisms that address various complexities of our digestive imbalances.

Bio: Steve Byers is a Clinical Herbalist trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cherokee and Western Herbalism. Steve works with his clients in his private practice at 96 High St. in Belfast which carries over 150 medicinal plants that he uses to formulate herbal preparations and educate people about how plants may help bring the body back into balance. Food sensitivity testing is a cornerstone to his practice as well and he works with many people who struggle to identify root digestive issues by working with a lab that tests for 150 food and chemical sensitivities. Steve also teaches workshops on herbal medicine, leads medicinal plant walks, and offers outdoor wilderness herbal first aid courses.
