This edited film of a live show that was originally produced to great acclaim in Baltimore and Washington DC , is a musical play that takes place in post civil-war Baltimore in 1869, a turning point in US history when ” America almost did the right thing”. The play centers on dynamic leaders in the civil rights, economic rights and women’s rights movements -Frederick Douglass, Isaac Myers, William Sylvis, Susan B Anthony and Frances Harper- as they struggle with questions that echo the current moment and centers on the impassioned search for unity during Reconstruction. The conflicts and possibilities unfold at a meeting convened by Frederick Douglass and are elevated by the musical and spoken word format.
